Ted Cruz has a Dildo Problem

Ted Cruz has a Dildo Problem

At this point in the primary cycle, we have a pretty good idea where all the front runners stand on the issues affecting most Americans.

This is especially true for two issues, the economy, and anything regarding sex, especially when it deals with groups who aren’t straight, or men.

What you may not know is the level of dedication that one presidential candidate has in removing anything and everything fun from sex.

Ted Cruz and His Hatred for all things Dildo

Cruz hasn’t aired his views on dildos during any debates or exclusive interviews. However, he made his position perfectly clear in a court case he argued while solicitor general for Texas.

According to Mother Jones, the Texas senator believes that there is “no substantive due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals”.

In 2004, the owners of Austin sex toy stores challenged a state law that outlawed selling or promoting “obscene devices”. Anyone who violated the law risked up to two years in jail. While the store owners argued that the Texas law violated the right to privacy guaranteed under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, a federal judge didn’t buy the argument that using sex toys is a constitutionally protected act.

When the store owners appealed the case, it fell to Cruz’s office to defend the Texas law. And that’s where he aired his anti dildo views. The government had an interest, he argued, in discouraging “autonomous sex.” He compared the use of sex toys to hiring or prostitute or engaging in consensual bigamy, and he argued that advertising these products was the equivalent of promoting prostitution.

The appeals court shot down Cruz’s (rather stupid and inane) arguments, saying that selling a device for personal use in the home is not the equivalent of prostitution. Cruz tried to appeal that decision, and he even weighed taking the matter all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

He didn’t, and in his memoir, did not explain why. Now, in the throes of the presidential campaign, it’s unlikely that Cruz will utter a single word about dildos. But he doesn’t have to. His legal record already speaks volumes about his thoughts on sexuality.
