Strippers, Porn Stars Use Snapchat to Sell Personalized Photos and Videos

You have to admire the adult industry and its ability to take advantage of existing technologies to make some money.

Adult services entrepreneurs, meet Snapchat.

For those unfamiliar with Snapchat, it’s a mobile app that allows users to send texts, photos and videos to friends and followers that disappear 1 to 10 seconds after being viewed.  The amount of time the information is available is set by the sender.

Snapchat’s pretty popular.

With a current valuation between 15 and 19 billion dollars, Snapchat sports approximately 100 million active users who send up to 400 million snaps per day.

In an effort to further monetize the platform, the service unveiled a feature called Snapcash, which allows users to send money to other users.

You can use the service to to do things like pay pay back friends, by stuff from fellow Snapchat users, pickup dinner checks….

And pay for virtual lap dances.

Strippers and porn stars are charging Snapchat users from $1.00 to $5.00 for personalized nude photos.  The price increases dramatically for personalized sex shows.

What’s the appeal?

According to the NY Times, who asked the question, Snapchat sex shows provide an intimacy that even surpasses webcams.  Also, mobility adds an extra layer of convenience to the equation.

A more compelling and practical appeal is the transient nature of Snapchat itself; once you finish enjoying the fruits of your purchase – poof – it’s gone.

The biggest problem in the whole operation seems to be the act of actually locating the adult entertainers, since showing too much skin on Snapchat can get you banned.

So, what does an enterprising stripper do to connect with her/his clients?

One popular method is advertising on sex forums.  Clients interested in advertised service provide their Snapchat usernames.

Another method is to send out a “daily tease” and direct Snapchat users off-site to pay for and receive services.

As they say, “necessity is the mother of invention”.  And when the need is money, the adult industry seems to be the most innovative of them all.
