Women are Watching More Online Porn Thanks to ’50 Shades of Grey’ Franchise

For women, Fifty Shades of Grey is a gateway to online porn.  At least according to a study conducted by University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

Women are Watching More Online Porn Thanks to ’50 Shades of Grey’ Franchise

“The message we heard from many women was that they get online to get off”, said lead researcher Diana Parry.

Researchers, led by Diana Parry, the lead investigator of the study, interviewed 28 women aged 21 to 54 and asked them about their sexual desires as well as their porn consumption habits and the impacts these habits have on their sex life.

The research team found the a woman’s porn proclivities depended on sexual mood.  Women read erotica when they wanted to indulge their sexual fantasies, maintain sexual arousal or wanted to be inspired sexually.

Women used online porn if they wanted immediate gratification, or if they wanted to involve a partner.

So.  What does this have to do with Fifty Shades of Grey?

“Essentially, the 50 Shades of Grey series brought porn into the mainstream for women,” said Parry.  “For lots of women, 50 Shades is their first exposure to porn written by women, for women. It opened the door for many women who realize that they like this kind of material and who have begun to search out similar content online.”

Parry’s study also found that women enjoy watching pornography, especially same-sex pornography, regardless of their sexual orientation.

“… Women are now producing, consuming and discussing sexually explicit materials with their own sexual desires in mind. In many ways this has contributed to a healthy sexuality for women that is important to acknowledge,” said Parry.
