Be responsible without taking responsibility. Anonymously contact your partner about your STD.
Finally figured out what that burning sensation was? Did you have sex just prior to, or just after the symptoms of your genital malady surfaced? Do you want to leave as little physical evidence as possible for your infected partner to track you down? Well, you’re in luck, there’s a web site that will allow you to contact your partner anonymously regarding your “genital issues”.
The site, http://www.check-your-lovelife.ch/, allows you to anonymously contact your partner and advise them to see a doctor. The site, created by the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, also provides visitors with fact sheets, testing sites, counselling services and other pertinent information that can help one make informed decisions. Your contact options include a personal letter (check out a sample here), Email, and at one point SMS (though you can copy a generated SMS text message). The website is also available in 8 languages, so the site’s message can reach a broad audience.
A series of cute, funny commercials were created to get out the message and promote the site, except there is nothing really cute or funny about getting a STD (trust me, I know).
It is important that people are informed so they don’t unwittingly pass on a disease to someone else.
-Roger Staub – expert in STDs at the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health
Yeah, what the guy in the above quote said. There is plenty of information available on the site to take some sort of corrective action. The method of notification may seem a bit cowardly, but if someone is notified about a possible transmission of a STD, they can take care of it before unknowingly passing it to someone else. And that’s whats most important.
