Hairy stockings post on Weibo goes viral.
By now, almost everyone has seen the picture and made the obligatory joke regarding said picture (the comment sections are pretty damn funny). Initially posted on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, the leggings are touted as “Super sexy, summertime anti-pervert full-leg-of-hair stockings, essential for all young girls going out”.
Now, whether these hairy stockings actually exist remains to be seen. If they do exist or if this was all a (pretty cool) hoax, the question around the idea of hairy stockings is, why?
It seems to stem from the not so funny fact that certain Chinese urban centers seem to have a pretty severe groping problem.
The Hong Kong mass transit system or MTR is considering women only train cars and buses due to to the exceptional amount of sexual harassment women receive when riding public transportation. Forty two per cent of woman riding the system have reported being sexually harassed.
The situation was further exacerbated when the Shanghai 2 line posted to their official Weibo account, a picture of a passenger wearing a revealing outfit with the comment, “If you wear clothes like this, no wonder you will be sexually harassed. Girls, respect yourself”. Needless to say the post garnered a strong reaction.

Maybe hairy stockings aren’t such a bad idea after all.
